Message from Sharon Kan – Executive Director

The Ottawa Chinese Community Service Center has been busy continuing services on-line by giving out information for help and services to those impacted as a result of COVID-19. At the same time, we reach out to seniors who are isolated through mobilizing volunteers that help to get food and medication to their homes. We also help other community groups to find volunteers to help others in need.

As we all realize the sacrifice and important contribution of health care staff, the board and staff at OCCSC have made a donation of $2,500 to the Ottawa Hospital Foundation in support of their work, which is much needed.

OCCSC is committed to continuing to work together with everyone to fight this unprecedented crisis in the country. I would like to thank all the volunteers, sponsors and donors for all their contributions and hope for the best for all of us. Last but not the least, thanks to our board members and all staff who work tirelessly and will continue to do so.

I also like to thank our partner the Ottawa Chinese Music Association as they provide the delivery services while we provide phone order services. In times of the current COVID-19 pandemic, the elderly are at very high risk of infection. To protect the health of elders in the community, the Ottawa Chinese Music Association (OCMA) and the Ottawa Chinese Community Service Center (OCCSC) have joined forces to organize volunteers that provide Chinese elders with telephone ordering, grocery shopping and food delivery services.

To Access These Services:

1. Call the special order line, and a staff member will call back to confirm

2. Volunteers will call the elderly to place their orders

3. Chinese supermarkets buy and deliver food to the elderly (volunteers wear masks, gloves and use alcohol disinfectant )

4. The delivery fee within 8 kilometres is $3, plus $0.5 for every additional kilometre, to a maximum of $10.

5. An optional tip of 5%-15% would be much appreciated to encourage the volunteers.

To order, please leave your name and phone number before 4pm.

Mandarin Service: 613-235-4875 ext. 181
Cantonese Service: 613-235-4875 ext. 182

I hope OCCSC can do our best to help our clients and services to overcome this pandemic crisis, we have posted information on our WeChat Public Account and through our radio program Chin Radio FM 97.9
