2014 Community Welcome Fair

All newcomers, immigrants and community members are welcome to this fun-filled event!

To welcome immigrants and newcomers to Ottawa and help them settle in this city more readily and with less stress, the Ottawa Chinese Community Service Centre, in collaboration with over 20 partners, including businesses, immigrant and community service providers, the Ottawa Fire Department and Ottawa Health Services, will hold an exciting 2014 Community Welcome Fair—a fun-filled free event for all residents in Ottawa, on Sunday, June 1st, 2014, 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm at the back parking lot on 381 Kent Street.

Mayor Jim Watson will be on hand to open the event and present the awards to the winners of the “A Joyful Moment in Ottawa “photo contest. Visitors will also have a photo opportunity with the Mayor. Information booths will be set up to provide information to visitors. OCCSC is to offer a full slate of fun for visitors of all ages – a series of children’s activities, luxury auto show, a fire truck on display, and a fire safety education trailer with laser-driven fire extinguisher training provided to visitors. All new- comers and old friends of the community are warmly welcome to the fair for a day of the fun.

Free activities include:

Guided Tour of the OCCSC: Briefing visitors on the OCCSC’s settlement services (information and support in law, filing tax returns, family issues, education, youth and senior services), employment services, language trainings, etc.

Fire Safety Education:

  • Interactive Fire Safety House – An interactive fire safety trailer will be on-site to teach fire safety and the proper use of a fire extinguisher. Trainings will be provided to children to learn self-rescue procedures in case of a fire.
  • Laser-driven Fire Extinguisher Training – Putting out a laser-simulated fire with a Laser-driven
  • Fire Extinguisher Visiting Fire Truck – 3:00 pm – 4:00 pm.

“A Joyful Moment in Ottawa” Photo Contest: Winners of “A Joyful Moment in Ottawa” Photo Contest will have their photos exhibited at the event. At 1:00 pm, Mayor Jim Watson will present the awards to the winners. After that, visitors will have an opportunity to have their photo taken with the Mayor until 1:40pm.

Luxury Auto Show: Luxury autos on display: Audi, BMW, Mercedes Benz, Porsche and Subaru. Sales associates will be available.

Free Kids’ Activities: Bouncing Castle, face painting, cotton candy, balloon animals, and childcare services. (Sponsored by Dovercourt Recreation Centre)

Free Snacks and Refreshments: (first come. first served while quantities last).

  • Tasty bakery snack-bags provided by Loblaws
  • Premium coffee from Starbucks and Tim Hortons
  • Delicious food gift baskets for lucky draw winners
