Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC)
Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC) is a government-funded program designed to help newcomers improve their English language skills, facilitating better integration into Canadian society. The program offers free English classes at various levels, focusing on practical communication skills needed for daily life, work, and community involvement. Participants benefit from experienced instructors, flexible class schedules, and a supportive learning environment tailored to their unique needs.
What is LINC?
LINC classes offer English instructions to newcomer learners, based on the LINC curriculum that encompasses a wide range of topics through which the language is taught. Information about life in Canada is provided, with a focus on social and cultural issues and, through a variety of field trips, the program links learners to the community. Some topics include: Canadian culture and Canadian laws, community and government services, education, employment, family and relationships, health and safety, banking, customer services, travel and transportation, etc. Students in the LINC program are provided with both language training and settlement skills. There are various workshops, too, with guest speakers who are experts in different fields that provide valuable additional information and knowledge to the LINC participants.
Who is Eligible for LINC?
The LINC program is funded by Citizenship and Immigration Canada and is for adults (18 years and older), permanent residents and convention refugees (for some other eligible immigration categories, please call the office).
The purpose of the LINC Program is to help newcomers to Canada learn English (at different levels of proficiency), to adapt effectively to Canadian society.
