Senior Support
To help Chinese seniors to live safely in their own homes for as long as they are physically and mentally well, we have teamed up with the Jewish Family Services of Ottawa* in a partnership service called Diverse Seniors Social Support*. Funding for this service comes mainly from the Champlain Local Health Integration Network under its Aging At Home initiative.
A full-time outreach worker leads a group of trained volunteers to provide social and recreational activities for Chinese seniors living on their own. The purpose is to help the seniors build and maintain social connection and learn about healthy living so that they don’t become isolated and know where to get help when needed. A part-time social worker who can speak fluent Mandarin and Cantonese works with Chinese seniors with more complex needs.
