Servicing the Community Since 1975
Multicultural Community Services Ottawa
The Ottawa Chinese Community Service Centre (OCCSC) was established in December 1975 and incorporated provincially on November 19, 1976, by a small group of community-minded local Chinese Canadians in response to the unmet social services and integration needs of many Chinese immigrants who were largely from the rural areas in the Guangdong Province.
The formation of the Centre was made possible with a small grant from the former federal Department of Manpower and Immigration.
"Our family really needed this opportunity to get some positive emotions"
Thank you so much Julie for the tickets. We don’t really have money or time to attend the games, cause we work all the time. So this game was a big present for my sons. Every Ukrainian family has its own story and its great they we can have such a big support. We love to learn new things about Canada, as we hadn’t known much before we came here. Appreciate everything you are doing for Ukrainians and best luck to you

"I would, without a doubt, recommend newcomers to have a meeting with Valeriia."
After having 2 appointments with Valeriia in Ottawa Chinese Community Service Centre, I can assess the results as positive. I received comprehensive answers to all my questions. It was clear that Valeriia genuinely tries to provide as much information as possible and simplify the first days of staying in Canada. All the information provided has been helpful at the moment, and I believe it will be useful in the future. I would, without a doubt, recommend newcomers to have a meeting with Valeriia.

"Andy absolutely loved the Youth Leadership Project and looked forward to each class every week."
After I arrived in Canada the happiest thing was finding OCCSC where we felt deep warmth. My son Andy was very fortunate to participate in the Youth Leadership Project. In this project, he not only learned professional knowledge about cross-cultural communication, leadership and advocacy, Youth employment, the wheel of life, and so on, but also exercised his English listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. Andy tried to use the knowledge learned from the Youth Leadership Project in his life. During this process, he found the knowledge was very useful and helpful. Now he is looking forward to participating in the next project.

"Over the last year and a half, my time with OCCSC has been the highlight of every week."
My name is Bill Lai, and I joined OCCSC as a homework club tutor in the fall of 2022. I initially volunteered to join the community in Ottawa after moving from Alberta. I enjoy tutoring the two students and watching them learn and grow. I’ve received excellent support from fellow volunteers and organizers, who have made me feel welcomed in this tight-knit community. I’ve also acted as a guest speaker for the Youth Leadership Project, which was rewarding. I highly recommend youth participation in OCCSC’s projects, either as a volunteer or student. They won’t regret the experience, and I certainly haven’t!

"These projects have given us a sense of belonging, and I highly recommend OCCSC to other parents."
In 2023, my child and I moved to Ottawa, and everything felt unfamiliar. When we needed help, a friend recommended the Chinese Service Center (OCCSC). The welcoming staff helped us solve many problems, and their programs are exactly what new immigrants need. My child joined the Youth Leadership Project, where she built self-confidence, made new friends, and learned valuable skills like teamwork and communication. She later joined the Homework Club, receiving academic support in a friendly environment and developing study skills. These projects have given us a sense of belonging, and I highly recommend OCCSC to other parents.
