The OCCSC Virtual Homework Club, designed for newcomer youth in grades 7 to 11 across Ontario!
This program offers students one-on-one or group tutoring through Zoom, led by trained volunteers.
Tutoring Subjects:
English, French, Math, Physics, Chemistry, Science
After settling in Canada, how to quickly adapt to school is probably a concern for many parents and children of new immigrant families. Poor language skills and different learning systems make many children often feel confused when facing schoolwork.
To this end, the Ottawa Chinese Community Service Centre organizes free online youth tutoring classes (Virtual Youth Homework Club) throughout the year to help new immigrant families in need.
All tutoring classes are free of charge. Volunteer tutors who are proficient in English, French, mathematics, physics and chemistry will explain academic problems to children. The tutors include high school science teachers , English teachers who have or are in the process of obtaining Ontario ESL teaching qualifications , federal government civil servants, etc.
During the weekly activities, the tutor and students take turns to make presentations , showcasing their hobbies or introducing the activities they are interested in. Through this session, students will improve their English language expression and communication skills, and also learn about the culture and customs of Canada and other countries.
Tutoring projects : English, French, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Science
