Parenting Group Community Program

Important Information About OCCSC's Parenting Group Community Program

Flag of Canada

OCCSC offers a free family drop-in group. This is made in partnership with Ontario EarlyON Child and Family Centre at two locations (Kanata and Barrhaven). The drop-in group provides support to all newcomer families. The children’s play group is led by registered early childhood educators and features: free-play, arts and crafts, sensory play, games, songs and stories. Parents and caregivers are able to receive one-on-one settlement services and workshops. Some of the workshop topics include: Canadian Child Benefit, childcare applications with City of Ottawa, Ontario education system for children, introduction to Algonquin College health programs and job opportunities, mental health for kids, etc. The drop-in group is a safe space for newcomer parents to mingle with other families for social and community support; getting kids ready for school and making friends in the neighbourhood.
